Spring is in the Air!

Can you smell it?

I love Spring!  I love everything about it!  Watching everything coming to life, the green mist on the trees, the flowers popping up, even the smell in the air after a spring rain!  It's all music to my senses.
Unfortunately, there are many people who are not looking forward to all of these things. They are the allergy sufferers.  April and May are the worst months for tree allergies and June & July for grass allergies.
All across Canada, people are suffering.
I'm very fortunate that I don't suffer during these months.

Here are some tips from the Mayo Clinic to reduce your exposure to the things that trigger your allergy signs and symptoms (allergens):

  • Stay indoors on dry, windy days. The best time to go outside is after a good rain, which helps clear pollen from the air.
  • Delegate lawn mowing, weed pulling and other gardening chores that stir up allergens.
  • Remove clothes you've worn outside and shower to rinse pollen from your skin and hair.
  • Don't hang laundry outside — pollen can stick to sheets and towels.
  • Wear a pollen mask if you do outside chores.

April Showers bring May Flowers

If you want to see your garden bloom in the spring, you have to start early.  It's tricky though, because with early spring also comes cool overnight temperatures so you have to be careful.

There are some plants that you could get a jump start on though such as Pansies and Primula.  They will both do well now.

You can also add some Gladiolus bulbs now for summer blooms, and as soon as the frost is done, you can get some Dahlias in the ground as well.

These are all great choices for containers and pots.

The Dreaded Spring Cleaning

Everyone talks about spring cleaning but let's face it - not many of us actually enjoy it.  It's one of the necessary evils that, in the long run, will make you feel better.  Honestly!!
Here are a few tips I read about.
To make your faucets clean and sparkly, rub a lemon half over the stains.
To clean your microwave, use the juice and rinds of half a lemon into 1/2 cup of water.  Microwave for about 3 minutes, let stand for another 5, then open the door and wipe it clean.
Clean your stainless steel sink with baking soda and scrub it with a sponge.  If needed, add salt to the baking soda.
I find using a microfibre cloth with water to clean windows is great.  Or mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar with 2 cups of water and 2 teaspoons of liquid soap into a spray bottle and spray onto the glass and scrub with newspaper for streak-free.

Time to Breathe

Now that you've done your spring cleaning, it may be time for you to take a little time for yourself.
Why not think about Yoga!
Yoga has many benefits, calming both the mind and body and who doesn't need that from time to time?
Dina, from Breathing Space Yoga in Hamilton, talks about some of the other benefits of Yoga.
Besides increasing flexibility and strength, it also helps reduce and relieve blood pressure, insomnia, anxiety, stress, back pain including sciatica pain, and helps keep the spine healthy, flexible, and strong.
If you would like to try a yoga class that is small and addresses your specific needs visit Dina at her studio.

The Spring Market

The increase in the number of sales from January and February shows that we are full steam ahead and anticipate a healthy spring market,” says former RAHB CEO George O’Neill. “We experienced a two per cent increase in the number of listings over last year, which means more overall choice for buyers.”   For stats and more specific information click here

Of course, this doesn't mean that it's not a good time to sell.   Spring is a great time to sell!  People are looking now.  They want to get into their new house before the end of the summer.  Selling now will give these buyers the opportunity to do just that.

Every neighborhood is different.   Every house is different.   The same goes for buyers.  Each one is different.  Each one is looking for something different.   How do you know how much to ask?  How do you know how much to pay?
That's where I come in.

Whether you're a buyer or a seller, I will help you through the process.  Both buying and selling can be challenging in their own ways but I like to take the stress out of the process for you.

If you're selling, I'll guide you through getting your house ready to sell.  I'll help you determine the best price to list your house for in order to get it sold quickly and for the most money.

If you're buying, I'll help you find the perfect property for YOU!
Sometimes buyers get frustrated looking at many homes and not feeling like they'll ever find 'the one'!  I always tell them that the right home will come along and I'm never wrong.  It always does!  New houses come on the market every day so don't get discouraged.

I'm NEVER too busy for my clients or for their referrals.  Whether they have a million questions about selling their home, or they want to see MANY houses before buying....  that's all part of my job and I love my job.  If I can help you in any way, I will.
